summer at the lookout

If you are looking for Summer prices and availability please click here.

The Lookout is a spacious and luxurious chalet available to rent on a self catered basis both summer and winter. If you are interested in a winter booking click here for more information.

Situated in the Haute Savoie region of the French Alps and perched at 1000 metres above sea level it offers breathtaking, panoramic views of Aravis mountain range and the Arve valley below. Whether you are looking for an activity holiday or to simply relax and re-energise, The Lookout is the perfect escape providing stylish, luxury accommodation with a sense of space and tranquillity.

The chalet is situated in the village of Araches La Frasse, which is just four kilometres from the mountain resort of Les Carroz and just 45 minutes from Geneva airport. Les Carroz is part of the Grand Massif/Flaine domain, which has hundreds of kilometers of walking and cycling routes along with dozens of other summer mountain activities.

In 2006, The Lookout was completely refurbished with an emphasis on both style and comfort. The interior of the chalet has been designed with a mix of modern eclectic and retro furnishings and comprises a glass-panelled dining room with stunning views; separate lounge with a sumptuous corner sofa, well equipped kitchen and five spacious bedrooms with contemporary, elegant, ensuite bath or shower rooms.

There is a huge variety of summer activities to be found in the immediate and surrounding area.

Mountain Biking
The Grand Massif has over 600 kilometers of marked downhill and cross-country tracks for you to explore. Each year, at the end of July, Les Carroz hosts 'La VTTticime' (Velo Tout Terrain) – which attracts around 2,500 riders. The area is relatively undiscovered by Brits so you can really get away from the crowds of neighbouring Les Gets and Morzine. However, should you want to check out these world-famous mountain biking areas, they are just 30 minutes drive away.

Golf
You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to golf courses around Les Carroz. It’s a twenty minute drive to Flaine, where at 1900 meters you can play on the highest 18-hole golf course in Europe. Others links in the area include the Les Gets Mountain Course, Royal Parc Evian Masters, Giez and Le Cottage Bise in Annecy and the outstanding course in Chamonix – all less than an one hour’s drive away.

Walking
What better way to take in the spectacular views, wild alpine flowers and fresh, mountain air than on your own two feet? There are hundreds of walking trails around the Grand Massif & Aravis ranges, for all levels of fitness, from one hour to a few days. And if you do find the inevitable ‘ups’ too much, you can always hitch a ride in a cable car.

Road Cycling
The french are passionate about their national sport and the famous Tour de France passes by, just a few kilometers away. As such, the roads in this region provide some truly spectacular rides, with clearly marked routes graded from gentle green to gruelling black.

Parapenting
Also known as paragliding, this is one of the locals’ favourite pastimes. It’s the closest thing you’ll ever get to flying – or so we’re told! Why not try out a tandem ride with a fully qualified instructor, or learn to fly one yourself on a week’s course.

Climbing
What better place to try your hand at rock climbing than the French Alps? Local guides will take first-timers on a beginners course, or test the skills of more advanced climbers. The limestone towers of The Tours d'Areu are just a stone's throw away as are the fantastic climbs of Maladiere and Balme.

Horseriding
If walking or biking isn’t your thing, why not explore the mountains on four legs instead? There is an equestrian centre just a few minutes drive from The Lookout, and also at Flaine, and both cater for all levels of experience.

White water rafting
As the snow melts the local rivers swell, offering some great opportunities for white knuckle rides on white water. Popular rafting rivers include the Arve at Chamonix, the Giffre in nearby Samoens and the Dranse, between Morzine and Lake Geneva.

And the rest..

Why not try…flyfishing and catch yourself some dinner…swimming in Les Carroz’s local pool complex, which has 3 outdoor pools, water slides, volleyball area, table tennis and manicured lawns, or in one of the area’s clear mountain lakes…canyoning down mountain rivers, which involves abseiling, sliding and swimming…potholing down vertical caves …tennis on one of Les Carroz’s five courts…shister biking on a fat-wheeled bike down the mountain…archery with fully qualified instructors…hot air ballooning over the Alps.
